RESOURCES

Our Management Plan contains hundreds of pages of historical and cultural information about the Gullah Geechee people and the history of the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor.

The Low Country Gullah Culture Special Resource Study was authorized by Congress to determine whether or not the National Park Service should have a role in preserving Gullah Geechee culture and, if so, what that role might be. It reflects a detailed study of the history and cultural assets of the Gullah Geechee people.

The U.S. National Park Service administers the federal National Heritage Area program. National Heritage Areas are designated by Congress as places where natural, cultural, and historic resources combine to form a cohesive, nationally important landscape. National Heritage Areas like the Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor, further the mission of the National Park Service  by fostering community stewardship of our nation’s heritage.
